How the checkup decides

It follows the four layers in Own your IP: the name and logo under trademark, the human-authored work under copyright, and the paper trail. The AI-generated face is always marked Not protectable, because copyright covers only what a person authored (Copyright Office, 2025).

Questions

Is anything I enter sent to CharacterGuard?
No. The checkup runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you choose is sent or stored.
Why does it always say the AI face is not protectable?
Because the U.S. Copyright Office says copyright covers only human-authored material. The AI-generated face itself isn’t protectable by copyright, whatever else you’ve done.
What does Protectable mean?
That the layer can usually be protected but isn’t yet, for example a name that’s in use but not registered. The next step tells you what to do.
Is this legal advice?
